Research project: „Good start“
Duration: November 2006 until October 2009
Supra-regional pilot project with its focus on the evaluation of the advancement of parent's pedagogic and social competences in precarious situations, for the purpose of preventing negligence and/or endangerment of the child's well being. The project is funded by the federal German government.
The project's aim is the establishment of an inter-disciplinary, low threshold service that is directed at a good start into life for babies and young children. The main focus lies on the development of an inter-disciplinary network of baby and child care services that supports the infant's/child's family in order to prevent cases of harm to the child’s well-being or negligence.
The project is a multi-centred collaboration between the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia. The basis of this collaboration lies in an agreement, in which the relevant federal states agreed to test out different methods of cooperation and to develop a network that is based on and can be integrated into the particular structural conditions.
The research project focuses on the three following points:
- development of regional provision of child and baby care service,
- a visiting program for families designed to advance parental attachment and educational competences, especially for families having to deal with severe problems and risks,
- evaluation of the networking process.
