Research project: Foster care service in Germany

Duration: 1st of August 2006 until 31st of December 2008

The research project „Foster care service”, which the DIJuF is undertaking jointly with the DJI (German Youth Institute) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Family, Pensioners, Women and Youth, is a reaction to the development of foster care service in the last few years.

Due to recent scientific findings, new legal foundations, legal developments and changes in the organization of foster care services, a new debate is urgently required about the question of whether or not the child's well being is at the heart of the international practice and research.

The survey focuses on attachments and relations as perceived by the child, as well as the different needs of all parties involved, including the professionals.

It is expected that the survey's findings will allow the team to draw conclusions regarding qualitative regulations for the cooperation of all parties involved in foster care services.

The survey's findings will be published as a guide to foster care service, and made available for the purpose of teaching and professional training. For additional information regarding this project, please visit www.dji.de/pkh.
